On June 16, Peter Walter, recipient of the 2014 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and Dyche Mullins, Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, University of California, San Francisco published an article on STAT – ‘To fight Covid-19, open access to scientific publishing’. On behalf of more than 100 active biomedical researchers, they urge the scientific publishing industry to open its store of scientific knowledge — which the research community has entrusted to it — and make this knowledge available to the world. They believe that COVID-19 crisis highlights the urgent need of making scientific knowledge of the world available to the science community. The open access to the scientific literature will play a fundamental role in finding solutions to many of the pressing problems facing the world today, from pandemic to cancer to climate change. It will do good to human welfare and economic progress.
